Aquí us presento la meva capa acabada...

Ensenyar-vos la capa em fa moooooolt feliç, gairebé tinc ganes que sigui demà per posar-me-la per anar a treballar. 

Estrenar una peça de roba que m'he fet em fa començar la setmana de més bon humor  !!

Let me introduce you to my finished cape... 

Showing you the cape makes me veeeeeery happy,  I almost want tomorrow to arrive so that I can wear it to work.  

Wearing a self-made garment for the first time makes me start the  week in a better mood!!

La roba que he utilitzat per la capa és una meravella : calenta sense ser gaire gruixuda,  no s'esfilagarssa, i per darrera s'hi pot dibuixar amb el guix de modista, 

En canvi no l'he encertat tant amb el folre:  Vaig agafar-ne un que corria per casa perquè en tenia prou quantitat i els tons combinaven.  Però s'arruga moltíssim.  A més, la costura vertical queda al biaix per la peça triangular lateral, i el folre creixia per moments...

The fabric I have used is a dream to work with: warm but not too thick, it doesn't fray, and you can draft on its reverse side with tailor's chalk. 

But, regarding the lining I have not been so lucky:  I just picked up a lining from my stash because there was enough amount of it and the colours matched, But it wrinkles very much. And in the vertical seams, which run on the bias for the triangular piece, the lining was growing and growing...

El botó és d'origen desconegut. El vaig trobar a la capsa dels buttons, només n'hi havia un.

És tan gros que no entrava en el premsarobes de fer traus, què podia fer?  Vaig pensar de fer un trau de roba "bound buttonhole", no sé com se diu en català, fins i tot vaig trobar tutorials, però al final em vaig decidir pel camí fàcil: automàtics grossos per dins, i el botó només decoratiu. 

The button is of unknown origin, I found it on my button box. There was only one. Such a big button couldn't get into my buttonhole presser feet, so what to do? The thought of sewing a bound button for the first time crossed my mind, I even found a tutorial on the net, but I finally chose the easy way out:  snaps inside and the button only for embellishment.

Ara ja em puc fer bruses de mànigues tan grosses com vulgui, totes m'hi cabran sota la capa!

Now I can sew myself tops with wide sleeves, any sleeve has room under a cape!

Coquelicots

Bona nit,

Tan bon punt vaig veure aquesta roba de llana a la botiga de robes del poble, em va recordar el quadre Les Coquelicots    de Monet. Me'n vaig comprar 2,60 m., era al gener i estava de rebaixes.  I la primavera encara quedava lluny, els gallarets me la recordaren.

As soon as I saw this woollen fabric in my local fabric store, it reminded me of the painting  Les Coquelicots by Monet.  I bought 2,60 m.,it was in  January and there were winter sales.  And spring was still  far away, so the poppies reminded me of it.

Vaig decidir fer-me'n una capa.  No n'he tingut mai cap, fins ara, i em feia il.lusió.

He triat la capa núm. 27 de la revista Moda de Pasarela 7.

I made up my mind about sewing a cape. I have never had a cape, yet, could be fun!

I chose pattern number 27 from the magazine Moda de Pasarela. It is a Simplicity pattern.

Aquesta revista té una estètica poc actual, però els patrons són bons, molt ben dissenyats.
Les instruccions són molt detallades, amb gràfics.


This magazine doesn't look very trendy, but the patterns are well drafted. The instructions are very clear, with graphics.

Tot i així, les fulles de patrons són un malson per calcar. Encara bo que els patrons porten marge de costura d'1,5 cms., t'estalvies afegir-li un cop calcats.  

Això em recorda un curs de costura que vaig fer amb Burda a Barcelona la tardor de 2015, el curs va estar bé, però la professora insistia que calquéssim i talléssim el patró sense marge, per després afegir-lo sobre la roba, em va semblar molt poc pràctic. 

Si el patró no porta marge, l'afegeixo al patró de paper, no el marco sobre la roba.

I vosaltres, com ho feu?

However, the pattern sheets are a nightmare for tracing. Well, at least the patterns have the 1,5 cms. seam allowance included, so you don't have to add it later. 

I remember taking a Burda sewing course in Barcelona, in fall 2015, it was fine, but the teacher insisted on us tracing and cutting the patterns without seam allowances, and then adding it on the fabric.  I found it very unpractical.

If the pattern doesn't have seam allowance, I add it on the paper, not on the fabric. What about you?

De vint-i-un botó / Buttoned

Bon dijous a tothom!

Ja tinc faldilla de botons, em pensava que seria un projecte ràpid, però Déu n'hi do les hores que hi he passat.

My buttoned skirt is ready, I thought it was going to be a quick project, but I have spent quite a few hours on it.

És la faldilla 2C  del Burda Easy de primavera estiu 2014. La revista me la va portar una meva amiga de Suècia.  Em sembla que el 2014 el Burda Easy encara no sortia aquí.

The pattern is 2C from Burda Easy spring-summer 2014. I received the magazine as a present from a Swedish friend. I believe that in 2014 Burda Easy didn't exist in Spain. 

Està feta amb roba "pell de préssec", i el folre és de polièster.

He escurçat la faldilla i l l'he folrada. També he cosit un tros dels plecs perquè no agafessin massa volum.

The fabric is suedette and the lining is polyester.

I have shortened the skirt and lined it. I have also sewn along the front pleats in order to have less bulk.

En les instruccions no hi sortia, però he fet repunt vist tant a la tapeta de botons com a la trinxa. Per fer-lo he estrenat  aquest premsarobes que té una peça vertical que es recolza en el cantell de la roba, i així hi cuses paral.lel.  Es diu  "edgestitching presser foot".

Mireu que bé que m'ha quedat el repunt arran de butxaca!!

The instructions didn't tell you to do so, but I have topstitched both the button placket and the waistband. I used for the first time my edgestitching foot, which has a piece that leans on the fabric's edge.  Look at my almost perfect topstitching in the pocket!

I ja us deixo que he començat una peça d'abric, i com no m'hi afanyi s'acabarà l'hivern abans que la costura!

Surto a Burda /Me in Burda

Sabeu què?
La caçadora Prince Charming ha sortit publicada al Burda de febrer de 2017.

You know what?
Prince Charming's bomber jacket has been featured in the February 2017 issue of Burda Spain.

No és pas el primer cop que surto a Burda, de fet, ja en van quatre.

It is not the first time I have been featured in Burda Style, actually, it is the fourth.

Sembla que quan cuso pels altres tinc més números per sortir. En prendré nota! ;)

Simetria / Symmetry

Hola a tothom

Us ha passat que una entrada en un  bloc us ha canviat per sempre la visió de la costura o la roba?

A mi em va passar amb  aquesta

Des que la vaig llegir, els quadres que no casen em fan molt mal d'ulls. 

I per posar-me un repte, l'hivern següent  vaig fer-me uns pantalons de franela de quadres, seguint , és clar, el tutorial de la inglesita.

It happened to me with  this post

From the moment I read it, I started to notice mismatched prints in many garments.

And, as a challenge, the following winter I sewed a pair of flannel plaid pants, following la inglesita's tutorial, of course.

És el model 112B  del Burda de març de 2012.

It is Burda 112 B from the march 2012 issue.

M'agrada com es posen, són ajustats de dalt i molt amples de baix.

Per marcar la ratlla de davant hi vaig fer un repunt amb un petit plec, vaig treure la idea d'un altre pantaló de  Burda.

I like the way they fit, they are fitted in the hips and wide at the lower end.

To mark the vertical line, I stitched a narrow pleat, as I had seen in another Burda pattern.

Amb els quadres fer costures verticals es fa molt fàcil. 

It is really easy to sew vertical seams following the squares. 

Ja veieu que de moment tot el que us ensenyo és de Burda, també he cosit amb altres revistes, però Burda guanya de tros...

As you can see I have only posted Burda pattern garments so far, I have sewn with other patterns, but Burda is the most used.

Prince Charming

Just mentre feia aquesta jaqueta estava llegint  "El retrat de Dorian Gray", d'Oscar Wilde.

En el capítol IV, Sibyl Vane diu: "Més aviat sembles un príncep. Et diré el Príncep Encantador." 

On those days when sewing this jacket, I was reading "The picture of Dorian Gray", by Oscar Wilde.
On the 4rth chapter, Sibyl Vane said:  "You look more like a prince. I must call you Prince Charming".    

De fet, no sé perquè Burda anomena aquest patró Prince Charming, no m'imagino que els prínceps del segle XIX portessin jaquetes bombers. 

És la jaqueta 134 del Burda de setembre de 2014.

Well, I really don't know why Burda calls this garment Prince Charming, as this bomber jacket definitely does not look like a 19th century garment.

It is the bomber jacket number 134 from Burda, september 2014.

Ha estat la primera peça de roba que li he cosit al sr. J., un projecte llarg però del qual n'hem quedat molt contents.

Com que no sabia com funcionarien les talles de Burda per home, fins i tot vaig fer una jaqueta de prova, la talla estava bé. 

La roba del cos és softshell, la de les mànigues polipell, i roba de puny a coll, punys i cintura. Les mànigues van folrades amb folre de punt.

It has been the first garment I sewed for Mr. J., and a long project, but one that turned out very well. 

As I did not know how Burda patterns for men would behave, I even made a muslin, the sizing was fine. 

The bodice fabric is sofshell, the sleeves are faux leather, and collar, cuffs and waistband are rib knit. The sleeves are lined with knit lining.

I aquí la jaqueta del revés per veure'n els detalls; 

el folre de les mànigues va cosit amagant la costura

el coll va rematat amb cinta al biaix.

Here you have the jacket inside out to appreciate the construction details;

the sleeves' lining hides the seam allowance

the collar is finished with bias binding

Hora de  per posar-me amb el primer projecte de 2017, a veure si us el puc ensenyar aviat.

Any nou, blog nou! / New Year, new blog!

Bon any nou 2017 a tothom i benvinguts al meu blog de costura! Aquest és el meu primer post. 

Començaré ensenyant-vos una jaqueta Chanel d'hivern que vaig estrenar la setmana passada.

És el model 107 del Burda de febrer de 2013. Està feta amb roba buclé de poliester. 

Fer-me una jaqueta Chanel era un dels meus reptes costurers pel 2016, una mica més i no hi arribo!

(Un altre dels reptes era fer-me una peça d'alguna revista Patrones, aquest també el vaig superar, ja us en parlaré un altre dia!)

Per fer-m'ho més fàcil he simplificat al màxim:  ni hi he posat cap galó al voltant,  ni l'he folrada. Sense folrar no fa nosa dessota l'abric.  La jaqueta es porta tancada amb automàtics. 

El patró amb costures princesa fa que es posi molt bé, El més complicat ha estat cosir amb aquesta roba que s'esfilagarssava moltíssim.  Per no trobar-me que la peça tallada s'anava encongint, he remallat amb l'overlock totes les peces tan bon punt les he retirat del patró corresponent. 

Que tingueu un bon principi d'any i us espero de nou aquest 2017!!

Happy New year everyone and welcome to my sewing blog!

I will start by showing you a Chanel-esque wintery jacket which I finished last week.

It is number 107 from Burda  february 2013.The fabric is poliester buclé.

Sewing a Chanel jaquet was one of my sewing goals for 2016, I did it in the last minute!

(Another goal was finally sewing a Patrones garment, I did that too, but I will tell about it another day).

In order to make it easier I didn't sewed any ribbon around the jacket nor lined it. The unlined jacket behaves well under the coat, as if it was a cardigan. It is meant to be worn closed, with snaps. 

This pattern with its princess seams fits really well. The most difficult part of the jacket has been sewing with this fabric which frays a LOT  To avoid trouble I overlocked all the garment pieces as soon as I had removed the paper pattern from them.
