KIMONO

Bona tarda,

Diu que va bé sortir de la nostra zona de confort de tant en tant. I avui us presento una peça de roba que m'ha fet sortir de la meva zona de confort. No per cosir-la, que ha estat molt fàcil, sinó per dur-la.

Good afternoon,
They say it is convenient to leave your comfort zone sometimes.
So today I will show you a garment which has made me leave my comfort zone. Not in sewing it, which has been very easy, but wearing it.






M'he fet un kimono. A més, amb brocat, ben lluent.
El patró és el num. 53 de la revista Moda de Pasarela 21.
Ja el tenia ullat des que em vaig comprar la revista. 

I have sewn a kimono. And in brocade sparkling fabric.

Pattern is number 53 from the magazine Moda de Pasarela, a simplicity pattern. I don't know the number, as I haven't found it in the simplicity web. 

Per dur-lo com a camisa i no com a jaqueta, he pujat l'escot uns 3 cms, i hi he 3 afegit automàtics per tancar-lo.

La roba ha estat fàcil de treballar, l'únic que ja vaig veure quan la tallava que s'esfilagarssava molt. Per això abans que res vaig passar totes les peces del patró per l'overlock.

La vista no la vaig entretelar, perquè no quedés rígida. I l'he rematada amb un viu daurat, ale! No és veu però hi és.

To wear is as a shirt and not as a jacket, I raised the neckline about 3 cms., and added 3 snaps to close it.

Fabric has been easy to work with, but it frayed a lot, so it had to be serged just after having cut it.

The facing doesn't have interfacing, to make it less rigid. And it is finished with a golden bias tape, which nobody except me can see.

En lloc de tires pel cinturó, vaig inserir una cadeneta de l'overlock dins les costures laterals.
Instead of belt loops, I inserted an overlock thread chain in the side seams.

I el dimecres vaig estrenar-lo, al concert de sant Esteve al Palau de la Música Catalana.
I wore it for the first time on Wednesday, in Concert de sant Esteve in Palau de la Música Catalana, Barcelona.

VESTIT ALLISON / ALLISON DRESS

Aquest vestit no es podia dir un altre nom que no fos Allison.

Des de fa molt temps segueixo el blog de l'Allison de Hong Kong. Si no el coneixeu us el recomano, sobretot si us agrada Burda. 

M'encanta tota la roba que es fa l'Allison, i em faria tot els seus vestits de punt. M'he fixat que hi ha un patró que ha cosit moooolts cops.

This dress could only be called Allison's dress.

I have been following Allison from Hong Kong blog for a while.  If you don't know it I can recommend it to you, specially if you like Burdastyle patterns. 

I love all garments Allison sews, specially her knit dresses. I would make them all. And there is a pattern which she has sewn maaaany times.

This one. 

El patró 105 del Burda de maig de 2010.He vist que l'ha cosit tants cops i queda tan bé i sembla tan fàcil, que me n'ha fet venir moltes ganes.

Jo l'any 2010 encara no comprava el Burda ni cosia, però per una casualitat vaig arreplegar el Burda de maig de 2010!  Els astres s'havien alineat, ara l'havia de cosir.

It is pattern number 105 from Burda may 2010. I really felt I wanted to sew this dress, but in 2010 I neither sewed nor bought Burda. But unexpectedly I got hold of that magazine! So there were no excuses left, I had to sew it now. 

La roba és punt de viscosa, té bon caient però és molt primeta. Per això li he posat folre de punt a la faldilla. 

Essent com és un patró fàcil, trobo que les instruccions del Burda són dolentes amb ganes. Per exemple, per inserir la goma de la cintura fan cosir una beina i posar-la dins i  ja sabem que si ho fas així la goma es comença a cargolar. 

A la costura de la cintura jo  vaig cosir amb overlock 4 capes:  cos, faldilla, folre i goma.   Va anar prou bé, perquè ho vaig embastar abans.  La goma cosida a la roba mai no es cargola i queda molt millor. 

The fabric is rayon knit, it drapes well but it is very thin. Therefore I lined the skirt with knit lining.

The dress is very easy to sew, but Burda's instructions are very bad. For instance, it tells you to insert the waist elastic in a casing, which is always a bad solution, as the elastic turns and twists. So I serged four layers at the waistband seam: two layers of knit fabric, one layer of lining, and the elastic. I basted everything - except the elastic - together before serging, and it worked very well. 

He estabilitzat la costura de l'espatlla amb  un tros de voraviu del mateix punt 
Shoulder seam is stabilized with a bit of selvedge from the same rayon knit.

Després de fer aquesta foto vaig notar que el folre era massa llarg i el vaig retallar 5 cms.

Ni la faldilla de punt ni el folre no tenen vora. Estan tallats amb el cúter i prou.  Trobo que això fa que tinguin molt bon caient. 

After taking this picture of the dress inside out I realized the lining was too long and I cut it shorter.

Both the shell fabric and the lining are unhemmed, just cut with the rotary cutter. That helps the dress hang very smoothly IMO.

RATLLES, FLORS, BLAU I VERMELL / STRIPES, FLOWERS, BLUE AND RED

Digueu-me optimista però per mi, ara comença la millor època de l'any per anar a la platja.

L'aigua és més neta, i prou calenta pel meu gust,  la sorra és buida de gent. L'únic inconvenient és que entre setmana no tinc temps d'anar-hi...

Però si el cap de setmana fa bo, encara podrem tornar-nos a posar  els dos últims biquinis d'aquest estiu.

Call me optimistic but, IMO, the best time of the year to go to the beach starts now.

Water is much cleaner, warm enough for my taste, and the sand is empty of people. The only problem is that I can only go during the weekends...

If the weather is fine next week-end, we will be able to wear again the last two bikinis of this summer. 

El biquini de la meva filla és el model núm.1  de la revista Patrones Costura Fácil núm. 29. Va veure el meu biquini groc i li´n va agradar la part de dalt.  Li vaig fer igual en vermell, amb alguns canvis: Vaig escurçar les tires i vaig fer més petita la distància de separació entre els dos "triangles" que formen la part de dalt. 
El top està folrat amb la mateixa licra vermella i té goma en horitzontal, sota el pit.

My daughter's bikini is pattern number 1 from the magazine Patrones Costura Fácil number 29. She saw my yellow bikini and said she wanted the same top.  So I used the same pattern with some adjustments: shortening the straps and sewing the two upper triangles closer to each other than in the magazine pattern.  The top is lined with the same red lycra and has elastic under the bust.

La calceta és la del model núm. 6 de la mateixa revista. 

És reversible, seguint aquest tutorial de la Lourdes de punts de colors. He vist que els biquinis que s'han comprat les meves filles aquest estiu tenien tots la calceta reversible.

The bottom is pattern number 6 from the same magazine. It  is reversible, following this tutorial by Lourdes (Punts de colors). My daughters have bought several bikinis this summer, and all of them had reversible bottoms, no topstitching!

El meu biquini també té la calceta reversible, el patró és el que tinc fet a mida, l'he baixat una mica de cintura i entrat de natges perquè fos més "platger".
My bikini has also a reversible bottom, the pattern is my tailor-made pattern, a little smaller to be more "beachy".

Les instruccions de Patrones són telegràfiques, i jo vaig anar totalment per lliure: Els sostens tenen doble capa de licra, però no són reversibles, tenen "farciment". Porten goma només a la tira horitzontal sota els pits. També hi vaig posar tanca a l'esquena en lloc de nus, el nus em fa nosa quan estic ajaçada prenent el sol. 

"Patrones" instructions are very sparse, I just followed my own way. The top has double layer of lycra, but it is not reversible, it has got padding. It has elastic under the bust. I also inserted a closure in the back , I find it uncomfortable to have a knot there when I lie sunbathing.  

L'estrena no va ser a la platja sinó a la muntanya. M'encanta banyar-me en rius i llacs!
First time wearing it was not on the beach, but in a mountain lake. I love swimming in rivers and lakes!

I ara sí que paro de cosir biquinis! Comença la temporada de tardor.

SAFARI

Ara que som a  ple estiu, no hi ha res com un vestit de fil, o de lli, per anar arreglada i a la fresca. Tant serveix per dur-lo a la feina, com per anar a donar el volt arran de mar.

Nothing beats a linen dress in summer. It makes you look put together and it's as comfortable as shorts and a t-shirt. You can wear it both to work or for a promenade by the sea.

 Ja us havia explicat que la primavera de 2017 l'única botiga de teixits del meu poble va tancar.  Hi vaig anar un parell de vegades i déu-n'hi-do el que me'n vaig endur.

Per exemple, aquest tros de  fil estampat.

De seguida que el vaig veure em va venir al cap "Roba de Safari", tot i que jo no n'he fet mai cap, de safari. 

Com que només n'hi havia 1,30 m, havia de  ser per un vestit sense mànigues, i calia un patró poc complicat.

El patró és el Model 15 de la revista Moda de Pasarela 22, correspon a New Look 6302. (Gràcies, my lucky sew!, per investigar a quins patrons de Simpliciy i New Look corresponen els models de la revista).

I had already told you that in the spring of 2017 my local fabric shop closed down. I did buy a lot of fabric on sale, I still have a lot.

For instance, this remnant in printed linen.

As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of a safari, I don't know really why. There was only 1,30 m., it had to be a sleeveless dress a simple pattern.

The pattern is New Look 6302, which is number 15 in the magazine Moda de Pasarela number 22 (published in Spain).  

Per manca de roba i també per mandra, diguem-ho tot, no hi vaig posar ni butxaques ni tampoc vistes. El coll i les cises estan rematats amb cinta al biaix comprada. I trobo que va molt bé, sense vistes ni butxaques no hi ha cap mena de bony! Hi he afegit un parell de detallets com  un tall al centre posterior i un automàtic per enganxar-hi la tira dels sostens, així no surt cap  enfora.

Due to the shortage of fabric and me being lazy, I didn't add neither pockets nor facings. The neckline and the armscyes are finished with store-bought bias tape. No pockets or facings means no strange bulks at all! I have added two small details as a walking vent in the centre back and a bra strap holder with snaps.

La cremallera no arriba fins a dalt perquè hi va haver "un petit incident", ho vaig arreglar com vaig poder. De totes maneres, em sembla que repetiré la jugada. Quan l'escot és gros i el vestit passa pel cap. queda millor posar el biaix continu i la cremallera per sota.  M'hi he fixat i en algun vestit comprat ho tinc així.

The zipper doesn't reach the back neckline because of a small accident which I solved as best as I could. Anyway, I believe it is a good idea and I will be doing it like this whenever the neckline is wide enough to let my head through. I have realised it is like this in some of the RTW dresses I own.

Després d'haver dut el vestit uns quants cops, estic molt contenta de com se'm posa, no és ni massa estret ni un sac de patates. 

Citant la Sara de goodbye valentino , qui cita la dissenyadora Edith Head:
"Un vestit t'hauria d'anar prou estret perquè es vegi que ets una dona, però prou ample perquè quedi clar que ets una senyora."

After having worn the dress several times, I feel very happy about its fit, it is neither too tight nor shapeless.
As Sara in goodbye valentino, I may quote the designer

Edith Head.……… “A dress should be tight enough to show you’re a woman and loose enough to prove you’re a lady.”

CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'

M'agrada molt aquesta cançó de The Mamas & the Papas! Em recorda el viatge que vaig fer l'estiu passat per Califòrnia...
Després de l'estiu, va venir l'hivern. Un hivern força complicat. A vegades he pensat en el que diu la cançó:
"I'd be safe and warm if I was in L. A."  (Si fos a Los Angeles, tot aniria bé..). 
I do love this song by The Mamas & The Papas! It reminds me of last summer's trip to California.
After the summer, winter arrived. It has not been an easy winter, so I often thought
"I'd be safe and warm if I was in L. A."


Per sort, ha tornat l'estiu i m'he fet un triquini amb licra estampada que vaig comprar a Los Angeles, a  Michael Levine fabrics. (un paradís per les costureres).  La licra verd flúor és comprada a Barcelona. 
Fortunately, summer is back and I have sewn a trikini with the printed lycra  I bought in L.A., in Michael Levine fabrics. (a paradise for sewists!) The green lycra is bought in Barcelona.

Aquest és el trikini que em vaig cosir en el taller de roba de bany reversible que ens va organitzar Mei fet amb amor i ens va impartir la Sandra, de Maria Modista Portugal. El taller el vam fer a Sitges a finals de maig. 
I sewed this trikini during the reversible swimwear workshop organised by Mei fet amb amor, and taught by Sandra, from Maria Modista Portugal. The workshop took place in Sitges, near Barcelona, one week-end at the end of  May. 

El trikini està fet amb dues capes de licra, no porta goma enlloc.  Està cosit tot ell amb l'overlock i només el punt final, a l'entrecuix, es remata a mà. No és ben bé reversible perquè li he posat "farcit" al pit, si no, ho seria.
Estic pensant de tallar les cintes de la cadera, em fan una mica de nosa.Les de les espatlles, les deixaré.

The trikini is sewn with two layers of lycra, and it has not elastic anywhere. It is completely sewn with the overlock, and closed by hand stitching at the central crotch. It is not really reversible because I inserted padding at the bust, otherwise, it would be. 

I am thinking of cutting off the hips' strips, and close the bottom there. However, I will leave the shoulders' strips.

BIQUINI GROC / YELLOW BIKINI

Benvingut a l'hemisferi nord, estiu del 2018!

La calceta de biquini que vaig cosir-me pel tutorial no ha quedat pas sola, ja té company.

The bikini bottom I sewed for my tutorial has got company!

El top és el núm.1  de la revista Patrones Costura Fácil núm. 29. Feia un munt de temps que la tenia, aquesta revista. Hi ha  4 patrons diferents de biquinis, 4 calcetes i 4 sostens,  me'n faré algun altre segur.

The top is pattern number 1 of the magazine Patrones Costura Facil (Easy)  29. I bought this magzine ages ago, and had never used it.  There are four different patterns of bikinis, four tops and four bottoms, I plan to sew more of them.

Les instruccions són de Patrones,o sigui, que són poca cosa. Vaig haver d'anar una mica per lliure,sort que no és el primer biquini que faig.  Segons les instruccions, no hi anava goma enlloc, però jo n'hi vaig afegir  a la costura horitzontal sota el pit, i així subjecta una mica.

The instruccions are very sparse, as usual in Patrones. I just went my own way, fortunately it wasn't my first bikini. The instruccions didn't mention any elastic,but  I inserted 1 cm elastic in the horizontal seam under the bust, it holds things better IMO.

El top no té folre, són dues capes de licra. Però no és reversible, per darrera va entornat a mà.

Si em torno a fer aquest top, també hi posaré goma a les tires, perquè no es donin tant. I faré la tira de darrera més curta, ara és tan llarga que l'haig de cordar a davant,sota el pit. 

The top has no lining, there are two layers of lycra. But it is not reversible, as it is hand stitched in the interior.

If I sew it again, I will insert elastic also in the strips. And I will shorten the back strip, now it is so long that I have to tie it in the front. 

Estic molt contenta amb aquest biquini, i encara queda molt estiu per davant per fer-ne més.

I am very happy with this bikini, and there is still a long summer ahead to sew more.
