Ever since I first watched the film Forrest Gump in 1994, I’ve been in love with the song
It is a song from 1965, a version of an older one by Pete Seeger. It is inspired in the Old Testament, and explains that there is time for every purpose. It is an anthem to patience and to let things happen.
To everything, turn, turn, turn.
There is a season, turn, turn, turn.
And a time to every purpose under heaven.
And a time to every purpose under heaven.
The song contains the verse A time to rend, a time to sew.
The last few weeks have been for me more a time to rend than a time to sew. By rending I mean decluttering, spring cleaning, wardrobe seasonal changing, and planning some refurbisment at home. The refurbishment will take my place in the room where I sew - which is not only my sewing room - . I hope to be able to show you the results soon.
Still, I have found the time to cut two garments.
The first is the top 106 from Burda april 2013.
The first is the top 106 from Burda april 2013.
I sewed this cute simple top in 2013, and last summer I still wore it.
I wanted to sew it again in a solid colour. I had one meter of a cotton mix with a good drape in a soft yellow. I love yellow and I find it hard to find it in RTW garments. In this picture you can't unfortunately appreciate its real colour.
As I had kept the pattern traced, I had the top cut in no time. I lowered the neck line and changed the hem to a curved one, I prefer it to a straight line across the hip.
I aquí s'ha quedat, esperant que aviat trobi una estona llarga sense destorbs i la pugui acabar.
The top is still like that, only cut, it's waiting to be finished any time...Encara no sé ben bé perquè, mentrestant he començat una altra peça, uns pantalons de fil de color blau marí.
I still don't know why, but in the meantime I have begun to sew another garment, a pair of navy blue linen trousers. They have no front fly but a side invisible zipper.
The pattern is Burda 102 from May 2017. I believe it is the first time I start a garment in the same month of the magazine, let's hope it gets finished in May, too.
I am sewing my trousers without the piece in the legs, and I wonder about the length, it may be 7/8, 6/7 or 8/9, I just used up the remnant I had. I must try them on and check not only the length...
The trousers are wide-legged, as I have got tired of slim leg trousers, and have read they are not in fashion any longer.
The trousers have reached further than the top, the pockets are already sewn.
Now I absolutely must finish them trousers, as both my sewing machine and my overlocker are threaded with navy blue thread.
And if two garments weren't enough, last week I visited the fabric district in Barcelona and bought sweatshirting to sew a bomber jacket for my daughter. I was on a fabric fast regarding myself. Still, I couldn't resist the temptation of buying two envelope patterns for coats, they only cost 3,5 € each.

They are Burda number 8292 and 6844, patterns labelled as intermediate.
I am planning to sew a coat in October, so I thought it would be nice to be able to cut the pattern directly instead of tracing such a big one. So now I will have to sew my coat, I actually practised by sewing my cape.So you see the Time to Sew must begin! I will be busy!
Thank you very much for all your visits and comments, and happy sewing!
