Des que vaig començar a cosir, l'any 2012, havia provat més d'un cop de reciclar alguna peça, haig de reconèixer que amb poc èxit . Aquest any finalment he reeixit en reciclar peces texanes, una faldilla i dos pantalons.

Ever since I started sewing in 2012, I had tried some upcycling projects, without much success. This year I have finally managed to recycle denim garments:  a skirt ant two jeans.

Aquí veieu la faldilla, feia temps que la tenia i no me la posava gairebé mai, la trobava molt encarcarada i poc afavoridora.

Here is the skirt, it was too stiff and I hadn't worn it for a while, it was not flattering on me. 

Vaig fer-ne el més obvi: una bossa de nanses.  Per no veure la bragueta de la faldilla al bell mig de la bossa, la vaig retallar, i vaig girar la bossa. O sigui que aquí veieu una butxaca de davant (a la dreta) i una butxaca de darrera (a l'esquerra).

I sewed the most obvious: a zippered tote bag. I cut the fly off and turned the skirt, so here you see the side seam in the centre, the front pocket on the right and the back pocket on the left. 

Perquè una bossa sigui pràctica ha de tenir folre, cremallera i butxaques interiors,  la cremallera la vaig comprar però les butxaques són fetes amb parts de la mateixa faldilla. El folre corria per casa. 

A practical bag must be zippered, lined and with inner pockets. I did buy the zipper, but the inner pockets are recycled from the skirt, the lining was a remnant I had at home. 

Quan vaig arribar a les nanses ja no em quedava roba, les he tret dels camals d'uns texans infantils, són la cara del revés. Van cosides com un biaix i amb dues fileres de repunts, per no haver-les de girar.

There was no fabric left for the straps, I used the legs from a pair of children's jeans. they are sewn as a bias tape, and topstitched along the two edges. No turning tubes!  And the side you can see is the wrong side of the jeans. 

Ara a esperar que faci més caloreta, no m'imagino dur aquesta bossa amb un abric...

Now I must wait for the warm weather to arrive, this is not a bag I would wear with a coat...

I el segon projecte és un conjunt de pitets amb trossos de pantalons texans. Cada pitet va decorat diferent. Es tanquen amb snaps. Són per nadons, de mida petita.

Per darrera van acabats amb punt de cotó orgànic. 

The second project is a set of baby bibs from jeans' remnants. Every bib has different decoration. They are closed with snaps. Really tiny bibs, for babies.

They are lined in organic cotton knit. 

En aquest pitet vaig fer repunt tot al voltant, la roba es va ondular una mica per culpa de la cara de punt.

In this bib I did topstitch around all the edge, and the fabric got wavy because of the knit lining...

Per això en els altres no hi vaig fer repunt al voltant, només el de baix per girar-los. 

Therefore the following bibs have only topstitiching in the hem, where they were turned inside out.

De moment prou texà,  però vaja, se m'han obert un munt de possibilitats!

Enough of denim for now, but I am already thinking of other denim projects!

ABRIC AMB CREMALLERA /ZIPPERED COAT

 Bon Any Nou 2021!

Aquest Nadal vaig estrenar el meu primer abric.  Vull dir, el primer abric fet per mi. He cosit una capa i algunes jaquetes, però cap abric de veritat.

És el patró 116 del Burda de setembre de 2016.   El tenia fitxat des que el vaig veure. Màniga ranglan de dues peces, o sigui cap problema per muntar-la. Sense coll.  I amb cremallera, t'estalvies els traus. I sort, perquè amb la tela que tenia, no me n'hagués ensortit de fer traus com Déu mana. Això sí, porta folre i butxaques de cartera. 

L'abric és ample, anirà bé per portar jerseis a sota.

Last Christmas I could wear for the first time a coat sewn by me. A real coat, as before I had only sewn a cape and several jackets.

It's pattern 116 from Burda september 2016. It had been in my wish-list ever since. Two-piece raglan sleeve, collarless, and zipped. It was great I didn't have to sew button-holes in this fabric. Well, at least the coat is fully lined and has welt pockets.

It is oversized so comfortable to wear thick sweaters underneath.

La roba és una mena de llana una mica desestructurada, no és difícil de cosir però és impossible de marcar. Per sort, com sempre faig amb Burda, vaig afegir el marge de costura directament al patró de paper abans de tallar la roba.  El folre el vaig comprar junt amb la roba, deu fer tres o quatre anys, i no en tinc ni idea de què és. Bé, és la típica roba per folres. 

Tot i que era el patró rosa de la revista, amb instruccions detallades, les vaig trobar molt imprecises. Sort en vaig tenir d'aquest tutorial de la Sara per fer les butxaques.  I d'aquest de la Marta per muntar el folre.

La vora està feta a mà, tant la roba exterior com el folre. Cal dir que aquesta tela és perfecta per fer vores a mà, queden invisibles segur. Això, sí, el proper cop miraré de muntar el folre a màquina, si me'n surto.

The fabric is some kind of unstructured wool, not difficult to sew but impossible to draft on. Well, I added the seam allowances to the paper pattern pieces before cutting them, so no problem.  I bought the lining together with the fabric 3 or 4 years ago and I have no clue what it is made of. 

This is the pink pattern of the magazine, with detailed instructions. But they were not detailed enough IMO so I was lucky to consult this tutorial for the pockets and this for the lining.

El vaig estrenar el dia de Nadal, com que la trobada familiar va ser a l'aire lliure per la  pandèmia, el vaig lluir força estona. 

I wore it for the first time on Christmas day, the extended family only met outdoors due to the pandemic situation,  I could show it a lot.

També m'hi vaig fer una boina seguint aquest tutorial de la Soraya de diyandglam.

I also sewed a maching beret.

A l'hora de tallar vaig tenir cura que l'estampat quadrés en horitzontal. I que  quedés simètric per darrera...

Ara que veig les fotos penso que havia d'haver fet vistes frontals i no fer arribar el folre a la cremallera. Però és que vaig seguir fil per randa les instruccions a l'hora de tallar les peces.

Now when I see the pictures I think I should have added front facings and not let the lining touch the zipper. But I was following instructions...

VESTIT CREUAT / WRAP DRESS

Hola a tothom,

L'última entrada del meu blog la vaig escriure el cap de setmana que va començar el desconfinament, recordeu quan només es podia sortir a fer esport dins del terme municipal i en la franja horària de 7 a 10 del matí i del 8 a 10 del vespre?

Espero que hagueu passat un bon estiu, lliures de Covid. Jo he mirat d'aprofitar-lo al màxim:  platja, muntanya, i també costura. Un altre dia us ensenyaré el que he cosit durant l'estiu.

I wrote the last post in the blog when we were starting to leave the lockdown, now we are starting to leave a second, but lighter, lockdown.

I hope you have spent a nice summer, without Covid-19. I have been enjoying it and sewing a bit, I will show you soon what I have been doing.

Avui però, veureu un vestit creuat que vaig acabar la setmana passada. Feia temps que me'n volia fer un.

I què he après?

Que el vestit creuat és un clàssic que afavoreix a totes les dones que tenim"formes" ;). Té diferents variants. 

Per exemple, el meu vestit té costura a la cintura i pinces. 

N'hi ha que no tenen ni una cosa ni l'altra, deuen ser molt ràpids de cosir. 

El meu vestit no porta punys, n'hi ha que sí. 

I finalment, el meu vestit s'acaba amb una vista, mentre que altres porten una peça de remat.  Tinc ganes de provar-ne un amb peça de remat, suposo que t'estalvies el problema que la vista surti cap enfora.

And what have I learnt?

That the wrap dress is figure flattering for women with curves.  Some dresses, like mine  have a waist seam and darts, others have neither waist seam nor darts.

Some have cuffs, others don't. 

And finally, my dress is finished with a facing, while others have a band. I guess that a band gives a bettter finish and you avoid the facing from peeking out.

AL VENT / TO THE WIND

Good afternoon, in quarantine I suppose...

Com voleien aquests pantalons!!
These pants do blow in the wind!!

A finals d'estiu de l'any passat vaig veure que l'Helena  de @maquinandopatrones s'havia fet uns pantalons així. Aquí teniu la seva entrada.

I vaig decidir que quan vingués la primavera me'n faria uns. Ja se sap que molts cops ens posem llistes de desitjos o obligacions costureres i no les complim, però aquest cop sí.

At the end of last summer I read this blog post by Helena @maquinandopatrones and decided I wanted to sew such  wrap pants. 

There are plenty of tutorials on you tube about how to sew them...

Com en diríeu en català, "pantaló embolcallant", potser? A internet hi podeu trobar molts tutorials de pantalons com aquests , com  a "pantalón envolvente" o "wrap pant".

He utilitzat una roba amb molt caient, és una mescla de poliéster, em va arribar justa, perquè aquest tipus de pantalons són molt fàcils de cosir però gasten molta roba. 

El petit estampat geomètric, tipus corbata, va ajudar molt a tallar-los rectes, perquè la roba rellisca com una mala cosa, Per fer les vores, les vaig haver d'embastar, amb agulles de cap no n'hi havia prou.

I have used a polyblend with a good drape, I didn't have much to choose from, this does use a lot of fabric. This small print helped me cut straight lines, because this is a very slippery fabric. To hem it I had to baste it first. But it was worth it, as the print matches where it should...

Però si ho mires d'aprop, es nota. Mireu com casen els estampats...

Ja fa tres setmanes que els vaig acabar i encara no els he estrenat... tot arribarà!

GARBUIX / MESS

Bon dia a tothom, espero que estigueu bé de salut.
Ens trobem dins un bon garbuix, dins un bon embolic, el coronavirus domina el nostre món.
Però no és per això que el títol d'aquesta entrada és Garbuix.

Es per aquest patró:

We are in the middle of the mess caused by the coronavirus, but that is not the reason for this post being called Mess.

The reason is this pattern:


Des que vaig veure el patró en el Burda de febrer de 2018, que el volia cosir, i aquests dies m'ha vingut de gust.
L'únic és que tenia poques robes per triar, ha de ser de punt prim, amb bon caient, i en calen 2 m. 

L'he feta amb un punt calat que vaig comprar en un JoAnn de New Jersey l'estiu de 2013. Ja tocava fer-lo servir!
En aquesta foto sembla una samarreta màniga llarga normal i corrent...

Ever since I saw this pattern in Burda february 2018 I have been wishing to sew it. And the day has come.
Only being at home I had few fabrics to choose from, as it demands 2 m. of a thin knit with a good drape.

I have used a green knit with some see-through print, bought in a JoAnn in New Jersey in the summer of 2013. It was about time...
In this picture it looks like a regular long sleeved tee...

Si us hi fixeu veureu que per darrera, només té costura ranglan a la màniga de la banda dreta.

I per davant, només té costura a la màniga de la banda esquerra.

If you look carefully you will see that in the back it only has a right sleeve raglan seam

And in the front, it only has a left sleeve raglam seam.  

 

La samarreta és molt fàcil i ràpida de cosir. El que és lent és calcar el patró per parts, afegir-li marges de costura, i  tallar-lo. Amb el patró a punt,  s'enllesteix en un moment. 

L'he cosida amb l'overlock, menys les vores, fetes amb la màquina de cosir amb zig-zag de tres punts. 

The t-shirt is fast and easy to sew. What is more troublesome is tracing the huge pattern, adding seam allowances and cutting it. Once the pattern is ready, you got your shirt in no time.

I have sewn it with the overlock, except the hems, sewn in the regular sewing machine with a three-point zig zag stitch.

Segur que la tornaré a cosir, ara ja tinc el patró!  Triaré un color més clar per poder-la combinar amb texans blaus.

I ara, a esperar per estrenar-la.

I will for sure be sewing it again, I have the pattern ready now! I will probably use a lighter colour to pair it with blue jeans.

FARBALANS / RUFFLES

Holaaa
Aquest 2019 no ha estat un gran any pel que fa a la costura, però s'acaba amb un projecte que em deixa molt contenta.

2019 has not been a great sewing year, but it ends with a very satisfying project.

És el vestit núm. 112 del Burda de gener de 2017. 

Quan vaig comprar la revista ja em va cridar l'atenció.  I fa un any més o menys, vaig treure patrons, comprar la roba i tallar el vestit. I així es va quedar fins que a principis d'aquest mes, vaig decidir que el volia començar.

It is dress number 112 from Burda january 2017. I loved it from the beginning. I traced the patterns and cut the fabric one year ago, but only started sewing it at the beginning of this month.

La costura ha estat bastant fàcil. Cal parar atenció a la vora enrotllada dels farbalans, això sí. Però van sortir bé. La roba és crèpe-setí, empipadora de tallar, i sobretot de descosir !

It has been rather easy to sew. The most laborious part are the ruffles and their rolled hem. The fabric is crepe-sateen, difficult to cut and to unpick!

És un vestit força ample. La costura central posterior, la vaig entrar 4 cm a la cintura i vaig anar definint cap amunt i cap avall. No vaig fer-li l'obertura del clatell, no calia.

It is a rather roomy dress. I had to narrow it 4 cms. at the centre back waist. It was not necessary to leave any opening in the back collar. 

El mateix dia que el vaig acabar el vaig estrenar, al Concert de Sant Esteve al Palau de la Música Catalana.

I finished it just in time to wear it to the Concert de Sant Esteve in Palau de la Música Catalana, in Barcelona.
